The Jewish Museum Berlin, integration of public address and media systems

The Project: The new Glass Courtyard at the Jewish Museum Berlin. It was designed -- as was the spectacular and world renowned museum itself -- by US star architect Daniel Libeskind. His architecture stands for a symbolic formal language that places exacting demands on materials and technical know-how. This architectonic challenge also applied to the integration of media systems that were to be installed more or less “invisibly” in the Glass Courtyard.

The Challenge: Harmonious integration of the audio, video, and control systems in a multi-purpose space for up to 500 people. This space is located in a glass construction that is supported by four freestanding bundles of steel pillars 13 m high which extend upward like tree branches into the ceiling.

The Solution: Once comprehensive planning for the technical equipment was completed by the Berlin-based engineers Acoustic Design Ahnert (ADA), ADA and ASC together took on the preliminary media systems setup. The goal was to design the basic configuration for media control systems, wiring points in floor boxes, and a connection system that supplies signals to a digital audio matrix, wireless microphones, digital PA array, professional video scan converters, and media hook-up trolleys.

The whole audio/video infrastructure was conceived in such a way that museum staff can run the technical facilities for smaller events in the Glass Courtyard entirely on its own. Guest speakers appreciate being able to use their own laptops to conduct their presentations via one of the two media trolleys.

  • AXYS Intellivox public address systems, Biamp AudiaFlex audio processor
  • Crestron media controls, Sennheiser wireless microphone system
