Maritim Hotel Kaiserhof

Installation of new sound and lighting technology in the Maritim Hotel Kaiserhof, Heringsdorf

The Project: Following extensive reconstruction work, the Maritim Hotel on the Baltic Sea island of Usedom was unveiled in new splendor in April 2009. A 280 m² exhibition area, the so-called New Forum, was added to the well-known historical “Kaiserbädersaal” (imperial spas room), designed to house conferences and events, which now offers a total of 600 m² of exhibition space. Twelve pillars support a glass framework. The result is a transparent portico that gives the event location an impressive atmospheric reception area and also serves as additional event space. This area, with direct access to the seafront promenade, is available for events such as company displays, exhibitions, presentations, readings, and small-scale concerts. The historical imperial spa architecture and the view of the Baltic Sea from both the forum of the Kaiserbädersaal and the café roof garden all combine to create an unparalleled atmosphere.

The Challenge: Installation of a modern sound system compatible with the historical architecture and newly planned integration of lighting technology and design, extending the scope of the hotel’s conference capabilities to encompass a broader range of events.

The Solution: In cooperation with the planner, chartered engineer Malte Joergens, Amptown System Company installed a PA system of conference and concert standard in the historical Kaiserbädersaal that was compatible with the nature of the building and yet provided perfect amplification for spoken and musical performances of all kinds. The brief required technical elements such as loudspeakers, antenna paddles, and surveillance cameras to be discreetly fitted into the classical imperial spa architecture. A new stage management system was incorporated to facilitate communication with technicians and performers.

The forum was equipped with a small, compact sound system for readings, exhibitions, and smaller concerts. It impresses above all with its new, comprehensive, and creative lighting concept for events and receptions. This was achieved by installing 200 high-intensity, adjustable recessed lighting fixtures that are able to emphasize and highlight the clean lines of the columnar architecture while themselves remaining unobtrusive. Here, too, the requirement was to achieve a discreet and harmonious blend of modern technology and historical architecture. In everyday situations, the hotel’s own technical staff is able to produce a standard range of atmospheric lighting, while a DMX interface is available for major events. Elaborate light shows can be programmed into the DMX memory. The multicolored effects enable the hotel façade and the forum to be given a variety of differing lighting treatments, thus lending each event its own distinctive character.
